Do you want a career in fitness and find that you are unsure whether you should become a personal trainer or get yourself a university degree? You might hear a lot of debates on whether a Certificate would get you to your chosen career door, but have you thought about what the best avenue is for you?
Here are some reasons why being a personal trainer and obtaining your Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness are just as good, if not BETTER, than obtaining a full University Degree!
Firstly, you should ask yourself…
What is your end goal? Do you want to be a Personal Trainer, an Online Coach, a Physiotherapist or an Exercise Physiologist?
Once you figure out what your chosen profession is, then you must consider whether university is essential! We all know that University isn’t cheap – an average tuition can cost up to $80, 000 and that’s not even factoring in expenses such as books, fees and living; then consider the fact that some people won’t have the time to complete a two-four plus year degree and live off part time income or commit to full time study and full-time work.
Another factor to consider is that not everyone will feel comfortable or confident in a University environment; maybe you are more of a hands-on learner, maybe you learn through diagrams, pictures or sounds! How do you learn best?
Another territory learning environment might be more suited to you. If you think of the reasons why obtaining a certificate might be more suited for you and your lifestyle, you might consider the fact that it is a smaller commitment with a faster reward payback.
You will be able to obtain accreditation that will allow you to get your foot in the door of your chosen career earlier, giving you the practical experience necessary to best benefit your skillset.
HPC have programs that offer specific job training, passion-based training such as Certificate III & IV in Fitness, PT Business and Nutrition Courses that would help further your knowledge base and allow you to continue growing your business and career.
Keep in mind that even though a certificate program might take less time, it will still be challenging and push you to attend classes, participate in class and discussions, read and complete assessments. However, you gain what you put into your studies.
